Heart of Amman II aimed at supporting refugees and host communities to become more resilient to socio-economic insecurities through increased access to entrepreneurship opportunities and livelihood initiatives. The programme adopted an inclusive step-by-step approach to support vulnerable and marginalized men and women in the development of their local neighborhoods through participating in community led initiatives, as well as providing access to sustainable livelihoods and (self-) employment opportunities. In addition to engaging in community led initiatives, the programme supported the employment of 200 Jordanian and Syrian youth through providing on the job training prospects and support through the provision of start-up packages and access to finance for microbusiness development, including home-based businesses. UNDP also selected existing social enterprises/ start-ups from its previous cohorts with high potential for expansion and impact on economic development in downtown Amman and provided them with extensive technical support, mentorship as well as financial support to support their growth.
