Site 4: Jizza Station.

The Jizza Hejaz Passenger’s Cart (Opportunities for Local Community)
Adaptive use of an old passengers’ cart to be used as café to serve refreshments and
snacks to station visitors. The café will be managed by a local community-based
organization or by members from the local community in the area.
- The Jizza Hejez Station Heritage Tourism Interpretation Path:
A heritage tourism interpretive path with interpretive signs that narrate the history of
the station, its architecture, technology, significance, and impact on the city of Amman.
- Cleanup campaign of the area surrounding the station
The HoA III participants launched a cleanup campaign at the site. This initiative
maintained a clean and healthy environment for the communities living in the
surrounding areas.
- Developing a shaded children’s’ play area and a football field: a shaded multi-functional
installation designed to host a children’s’ play area with seating to serve children from
the area, tourists, and local visitors and youth. A football field was also established to
help bring the community together and enhance social cohesion among youth.
- The Hejaz Railroad Board Game: this initiative consists of a board game (floor-board
game):
The game was designed on the theme of “travel” between Damascus and Mecca for the
purpose of the Holy Pilgrimage or for the transfer of cargo. The board game is also
about time travel between, first: the 16th century (Travel with the Caravan from
Damascus to Mecca along the various Hajj Forts (Ottoman infrastructure from the 16th
and 18th centuries), and second: the turn of the 20th century, travel by train on the
Hejaz Railroad Line from Damascus to Mecca. As part of the game, the traveler will be
faced with difficulties that pilgrims used to encounter which will slow the pace of the
travel, and the winner is the one who gets to Mecca first. The purpose of the board
game is to raise awareness about the history and significance of the Hejaz Railroad Line.

Painting
During the implementation, the participants suggested to paint tone of the rooms in Al
Jizza Station to upgrade its appearance for local visitors and tourists.
