Enhancement of Local Socio-Economic Conditions through Urban Agriculture
The main objective is enhancing socio-economic opportunities for the local community,
particularly women through implementing an urban and peri-urban agricultural
production initiative including a greenhouse farming space of 1300 square meters.
- Al Qaser Hejaz Passenger’s Cart (Opportunities for Local Community promoting Local
Urban Agricultural Products): adaptive use of an old passengers’ cart to be utilized as an
exhibition space for selling local produce from the urban agricultural initiative.
Participants supported in renovating the passengers’ cart and in establishing a shaded
public space for tourists and visitors. This initiative will be managed by a local
community-based organization to ensure sustainability.
- Cleanup campaign of the area surrounding the station
The HoA III participants launched a cleanup campaign on the site. This initiative
maintained a clean and healthy environment for the communities living in the
surrounding areas.
- Designing green spaces around the stations and the railway.
The Greater Amman Municipality provided the HoA III participants with seedlings and
trees which were planted along the sides of the railway track to promote access to
greener spaces and enhance the quality of the environment. Training on simple planting
and safe agricultural practices was also provided to all participants.
Security was essential while designing the initiative where a fence-stone wall was built
to secure the area.
Painting
During the implementation, the participants suggested to paint one of the rooms in the
Al Qaser Umm Al Hiran Station to upgrade its appearance for local visitors and tourists.
