"Khazanakum Malyan" (Your Tank Is Full) Initiative

"Khazanakum Malyan" (Your Tank Is Full) Initiative.

A community-based environmental initiative that contributed to raising community awareness of the importance of reducing water consumption and eliminating wasteful practices in Al-Akhdar neighborhood. The idea of the initiative came in response to the rise in water bills reported by the people of the neighborhood, consequently sensing the importance of water conservation. The team chose the name "Khazanakum Malyan" (Your Tank is Full) for the initiative because of the problem of frequent water cuts and insufficient water supplies for households in the neighborhood. This was due to the lack of awareness on simple maintenance procedures for tanks and house water networks. The initiative included home visits to 500 households with the aim of raising their awareness about the types of technical problems related to water tank maintenance, floats, and water networks, and how to fix them. It also involved carrying out home visits to 150 underprivileged households, checking their water networks, fixing leakages, installing water-saving devices, and training them on ways to reduce water consumption. These households were selected according to specific criteria agreed upon with community-based organizations in the area. Through the initiative, the team improved their skills in conducting field surveys as well as detecting, documenting, and responding to problems facing residents. The initiative reinforced the concept of community participation.
