"Darajana Ahla" (Our Stairway Is More Beautiful) Initiative

"Darajana Ahla" (Our Stairway Is More Beautiful) Initiative.

A community environmental initiative that contributed to the rehabilitation, maintenance and beautification of the stairway in the Wadi Al-Surour neighborhood, serving 5,000 residents. This was done through the maintenance and restoration of 400 steps to become safe usable by the people. Stairway walls were restored, and the surrounding area was landscaped to become a tourist attraction as one of the stairways overlooking the downtown area and linking between Al-Ashrafieh/Abu Darwish Mosque and downtown Amman. In cooperation with the local community, the beneficiaries mobilized the residents and asked the Amman Municipality/Yarmouk to contribute to renovating the stairway. Participants planted trees in the communal spaces. An aesthetic touch was added to the stairway through the artistic geometric drawings on the stair treads. To ensure sustainable, the participants, together with a group of well-known figures in the neighborhood, held awareness-raising meetings with the people in the neighborhood, especially those having houses overlooking the stairway, and urged them to follow up on the cleanliness of the neighborhood and preserve the initiative’s achievements.
