A health and environmental initiative designed by 3 beneficiaries from Al-Akhdar local community to contribute to improving air quality inside old houses that suffer from air pollution, dampness and mold. All these problems would inevitably cause respiratory diseases to residents, especially children, as well as pose a threat to the safety of the building on the long-term. The heart of Amman beneficiaries chose the idea of this initiative because of their experience in the field and recognition of the indoor pollution in the neighborhood. Only a few households were aware of the innovative, low-cost solutions presented through the initiative (e.g. Nanotechnology for insulation). Through the initiative, an awareness campaign was implemented under the supervision of relevant experts with the aim of guiding and raising the awareness of 500 households on innovative and affordable solutions to address the problems of dampness and mold as well as providing tips on behaviors that would improve air quality inside homes. Households were provided with an informative brochure developed specifically to suit the individual needs of every household in the neighborhood. In addition, households were provided with special material to maintain ceilings and walls and fix leakage areas.
