A community health initiative that extended a helping hand to people with hypertension and diabetes in the Jabal Al-Natheef neighborhood, facing difficulty in accessing appropriate health care during the Coronavirus closures in the Kingdom, either because of fear of infection as a result of visiting medical centers or because of the lack of financial capabilities. The initiative focused on raising health awareness about healthy lifestyles and nutrition for the patients. This was done with the support of specialized medical staff, thus enabling the team to achieve, through a preventive medical approach, effective results in providing protection to this group against any viral infections. In cooperation with community-based organizations in the neighborhood, the initiative team selected and targeted 90 patients to provide them with blood pressure monitors, glucometers and some medical supplies. They were also provided with direct medical care and medical instructions that equipped them with the skills to monitor their health conditions on their own and to cope with these diseases without complications. The initiative also involved the implementation of a community awareness-raising campaign under the slogan "Prevention is better than cure", benefiting 800 households in the Al-Natheef neighborhood. Further, the team distributed awareness-raising brochures, including key tips and guidelines for preventing chronic diseases, especially diabetes and high blood pressure.
