A community environmental initiative that contributed to changing the behavior of the people of the Al-Akhdar Neighborhood on dealing with leftover bread, by sorting and recycling it separately from household waste, allowing its reuse, especially during the Coronavirus closures in the Kingdom. The initiative involved the design of an integrated behavioral change campaign with help from specialists. Messages were disseminated in public places, and community leaders played an important role in spreading awareness. The campaign included designing and making 16 bread containers in line with relevant specifications to ensure the safety of bread for reuse. These containers were installed in 9 main streets in the neighborhood, chosen by the Greater Amman Municipality. The Municipality also provided the initiative with 14 additional containers, bringing the total number to 30. Stickers with motivational pictures and phrases were stuck on these containers, indicating that they were designed for bread. The initiative included several activities, the most important of which were visits to 100 households and organizing meetings for 20 women in a charitable association with the aim of introducing them to the initiative and providing them with a map of the locations of containers. The women were also provided with a brochure on ways to make use of the leftover bread, such as toasting, grinding and keeping it in jars to be used, instead of flour, to make some foods, or feeding it to poultry and livestock.
