- 29 community led initiatives were implemented by 165 beneficiaries in a number of thematic areas.
- Some initiatives were designed to respond to COVID-19 challenges including sanitization of public spaces, health and hygienic awareness campaigns.
- Community initiatives included energy saving, water conservation and environmental awareness campaigns, rehabilitation of stairs and wayfinding, greening of public spaces, implementation of safety measures in Ras Al-Ain public park and beautification of the walls and mural artwork.
- 30% of marginalized youth and vulnerable groups reported increased resilience (sense of purpose, agency, belonging and social responsibility) as a result of participating in community initiatives.
- Out of 165 project participants, 50 were selected to receive seed capital to start their own micro-ventures (54% women owned, 14% Syrian).
- 29 social entrepreneurs received funding to start their micro businesses delivering entrepreneurial solutions to social or environmental problems and stimulating the local economy in downtown Amman.
- Established micro-ventures included green businesses providing solutions to environmental challenges. These include roof-top greening, floods protection shields, natural and organic skin-care products, recycling waste to produce souvenirs for touristic bazaars.
- All entrepreneurs who received funding to start their business received customized business support, mentorship and networking opportunities with investors and ecosystem stakeholders.
- As part of the COVID response, 100 women and youth micro-entrepreneurs were provided with liquidity support for a 3-months (working capital) to help their businesses cope with impact of the pandemic.
- UNDP implemented a project in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health (MoH), GAM and a local NGO to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project consisted of the three components:
- Community engagement to support local entrepreneurs with innovative ideas related to solving challenges attributed to COVID-19.
- Implementing emergency triage stations to support Emergency Room (ER) departments of public hospitals to reduce the influx of patients entering the ER and thus minimizing the overload of patients for medical staff and the facilities of the hospital.
- Providing isolation and emergency stations caravans at the Al-Omari Border aimed at lowering the potential impact of cross-contamination in order to ensure the safety of Jordanian community
